I had the special privilege of being included as one of the authors at the W.E. Richardson, Jr. Memorial Library Author’s Night this week with six other authors in Emporia, VA.
All of us write in different genres and are at different points in our career. I think that made it nice for the readers – a little something for everyone. The event was beautifully done, and a lot of fun. It was well organized from the planning, the amazing newspaper coverage in the Independent Messenger, and the inclusive environment they set up to accommodate the event during library hours, to the wonderful spread of treats and refreshments.
Over 80 people attended the event, joining readers and writers for an evening of fellowship. If you haven’t made a trip to your local library recently, you’re missing out. Director of the Meherrin Regional Library System, Sarah Raible, opened the event with heartfelt remarks about the library and their mission to help connect the community to not only books, but information and knowledge. This team of professionals truly loves the work they do – and it shows.
A big thank you to Shirley Valentine, Senior Library Assistant, who coordinated the authors for the event – such a delight to work with, and to the Meherrin Library system for sharing these great pictures. I made new friends, and it was a lot of fun to hear what people enjoyed reading and share personal stories.
I’ve already got my calendar marked to attend next year’s event, too. As you know, I’m a proud member of Romance Writers of America, and among the authors in attendance was Virginia Romance Writers chapter member, Kit Wilkinson. …. …. Kit just received a 4.5 cups rating for her new book SABOTAGE coming out in June 2010. Keep an eye out for that one.
You might just want to pencil in May 2011 if you live in the Greensville, Brunswick or Southampton County areas of Virginia so YOU don’t miss out.
Hugs and high 5s, Nancy
