September – B-Bye Summer

Here I am in my late forties … no children … but September still always feels like a new beginning to me.

It must be a throw-back to our school days. I get all excited when the circulars come filled with school supplies, because as a writer pens, paper, pencils and nifty clips are an obsession for me! I love them. Can’t get enough. Is there a 12-step program for school supply addiction? I’d be the poster child.

Aside from the delight restocking all my office supplies at a disscount brings, I can begin to see the seasons eager to change.

The air is getting a little cooler, the leaves are starting to change and the mums are just dying to push out into mounds of color. Not just any color — those deep, soft, muted colors … yipppeee.

September is also the month of the State Fair here in Virginia. Some of you might remember my husband is the Superintendent for the Virginia State Fair Meat Goat Show. I announce the show, do all the statistic and data gathering and coordinate all the scholarship information for the youth. It’s a labor of love and a proud moment when you see those kids (the 2 and 4 legged ones!) show their competency as they lead their livestock around the ring … all hoping for that big blue ribbon and Grand Champion banner.

I’m smiling on September … are you?
